Blow! – 2008
This is the second album from this great Dutch group and on the ever-consistent label ‘Social Beats’ (also Dutch), who, currently, can do no wrong. Let’s make no bones about it, this album is aimed straight at the dancefloor and hit’s the bullseye. Dj’s with no patience will get frustrated because there are so many tracks one could play (Day By Day; Perugia; Max Roach; Broad Minds and the funky ‘What The Bleep’) but it’s also varied enough, tempo and style-wise, to suit the home-listener too. Up & Out – 2006
First album from the Jazzinvaders! The Jazzinvaders is a unique project by Dutch nu-jazz and afrobeat don Phil Martin and two members of the legendary jazz group The Houdini’s, Rolf Delfos (horns and saxophone) and Erwin Hoorweg (piano). They first started working together during a session at the famous Amsterdam Bimhuis, where Phil Martin blended his dancegrooves with the jazz sound of The Houdini’s. The result of this is Jazzinvaders, a very very danceable mix of hardbop jazz with heavy broken beats and exotic grooves. Continue reading
