‘Samba Doido (Crazy Samba)’ is definitely the best term to describe the music of Brazilian band Azymuth. Drummer and bandleader Phil Martin of the Jazzinvaders has been a fan for years. In 2014 The Jazzinvaders were offered an opportunity to work with Azymuth’s bassist Alex Malheiros and drummer Ivan Conti Mamão. After meeting and gigging they decided it would be fun to spend some days in the studio to record some and see what would happen. When the opportunity occurred, new material was written on the spot and some Azymuth classics received the Jazzinvaders treatment. In practically no time (two days) there appeared to be a completely spontaneous recorded album! Continue reading

Blow! – 2008
This is the second album from this great Dutch group and on the ever-consistent label ‘Social Beats’ (also Dutch), who, currently, can do no wrong. Let’s make no bones about it, this album is aimed straight at the dancefloor and hit’s the bullseye. Up & Out – 2006
First album from the Jazzinvaders! The Jazzinvaders is a unique project by Dutch nu-jazz and afrobeat don Phil Martin and two members of the legendary jazz group The Houdini’s, Rolf Delfos (horns and saxophone) and Erwin Hoorweg (piano). The result of this is Jazzinvaders, a very very danceable mix of hardbop jazz with heavy broken beats and exotic grooves. Continue reading
